Masjid Al-Ijabah
Al Maabdah, Makkah 24236, Saudi Arabia
Overview
Masjid Al-Ijabah, one of the oldest mosques in Mecca, holds deep historical and spiritual significance. Constructed around 624 CE during the 3rd year of Hijrah, it is situated in the Al-Muhassab area, now known as Al-Ma’abada, positioned between Masjid Al-Haram and Mina. The mosque marks a site where Prophet Muhammad ﷺ offered prayers following the Quraysh boycott in 616 CE and during pivotal moments such as the Conquest of Mecca in 630 CE and his Farewell Pilgrimage in 632 CE.
The mosque is historically tied to Sayyidatuna Khadijah (رضي الله عنها), who used to meet the Prophet here before revelations began. This meeting point, located roughly halfway between their home and the Cave of Hira, was where she brought him provisions during his spiritual retreats. Masjid Al-Ijabah's heritage reflects its role as a spiritual sanctuary during formative periods of Islamic history.
Architecture & Features
Over the centuries, Masjid Al-Ijabah has undergone multiple renovations to accommodate modern needs while preserving its sacred identity. The mosque now spans approximately 400 square meters and features a central dome, a minaret, and external ablution facilities for worshippers. The latest restoration completed in 2001 CE introduced colorful marble finishes and upgraded infrastructure, blending contemporary Islamic architectural style with reverence for tradition.
