Zohid Kebab in Madinah: Tashkent plov, kebabs and tea near the Prophet's Mosque (2026)

If you come to Madinah from Uzbekistan or Central Asia, a plate of plov after a long day at the Prophet's Mosque is hard to beat. Zohid Kebab is one of the few places in the city that cooks it the Tashkent way, and it is a three-minute walk from the mosque. Here is what the restaurant offers, what we would order and how to find it. Data checked on 11 October 2026.

From a Tashkent tandoor to Madinah

According to the restaurant, Zohid Kebab began in 2017 as a single place in Tashkent with a tandoor in an open kitchen and has grown to six branches there. The Madinah restaurant is its first outside Uzbekistan. It is not on the street: it is inside As Safiyyah Museum & Park, so you walk through the gallery past the shops and look for the green living wall at the entrance.

The room

The kitchen is open, and the tandoor bread comes out in view of the tables. A screen in the main hall carries a live broadcast from the Haram, which is handy when you want to follow prayer times without leaving the table. There are long tables for groups, a separate sofa corner for families and, according to the restaurant, a banquet hall for up to 200 guests. The restaurant says its food is halal under Saudi certification.

What to order

  • Uzbek plov (35 SAR, 495 kcal): rice with lamb and beef, carrot, chickpeas and raisins. If you order one dish, this is the one.
  • Adana kebab (55 SAR, 778 kcal): minced-meat kebab with bell pepper, served with tortilla bread, rice, radicchio salad and lemon.
  • Lamb kebab in butter (70 SAR, 1,188 kcal): 400 g of lamb with peppers, tomato, butter and rosemary. A heavy dish, good for sharing.
  • Caucasian-style kebab (55 SAR, 992 kcal): 300 g of fillet cooked with lamb fat and tomato, with tortilla bread, onion and rice.
  • Manti (25 SAR, 553 kcal): steamed dumplings with minced meat and onion. The cheapest hot dish in our list.
  • Mastava (35 SAR, 396 kcal): a rice soup with beef, carrot and potato, a lighter choice.
  • Ali Nazik (55 SAR, 758 kcal): fillet of meat on a labneh and mozzarella cream with tomato and pomegranate, a Turkish dish on a mostly Uzbek menu.

The tea tradition

In Uzbekistan tea opens the meal rather than closing it. The restaurant says every table gets the first pot on the house. The menu lists 17 teas, hot and iced. The house blend, Zohid tea mix (20 SAR, 99 kcal), is black tea with blueberry syrup, lemon, mint and orange.

Eating with a group

For groups there are large platters: the menu has an assorted kebab platter for five (500 SAR), and the restaurant also offers braised lamb and lamb neck stew portions for three. A table for a larger group can be booked through the restaurant's WhatsApp.

How to get there

The address is As Safiyyah Museum & Park, Mkhiriq Street, Bani Khidrah, Madinah 42311. The restaurant gives these walking times from nearby points:
