Saudi Arabia Introduces Multiple-Entry Annual Umrah Visa for Afghan Pilgrims
Saudi Arabia has launched a multiple-entry annual umrah visa available through accredited agents, replacing the previous single-entry 90-day visa. This has simplified travel for Afghan pilgrims, increasing umrah flow and influencing wedding ceremony choices.

In late July, Saudi Arabia, according to information from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, introduced a one-year umrah visa allowing multiple entries into the Kingdom, provided travel is arranged through accredited tourism agents.
Previously, Afghan pilgrims could only obtain a single-entry permit valid for 90 days, and due to logistical difficulties, many waited months or even years to make the trip.
The new system has significantly simplified the process: visa issuance has become faster and is available to all tourism companies, not just a limited circle of agencies. As a result, the flow of umrah pilgrims from Afghanistan has increased, and pilgrims note greater convenience.
Beyond simplifying travel, the visa has influenced wedding traditions: some young couples prefer to marry during umrah at Masjid al-Haram rather than hold elaborate ceremonies at home. According to King Global Travel and Tourism agency, two couples from Parwan province have already chosen this format, with the cost of a trip for a couple and parents amounting to approximately 7,000 dollars, while a wedding in prestigious halls in Kabul can exceed 15,000 dollars.
Pilgrims note that visa processing now takes only one week. For example, 48-year-old Mohammad Rasool reported that he submitted his application and received approval in seven days, while 50-year-old Gul Marjan Hakimi emphasized that the annual visa provides the opportunity to perform umrah again if the occasion arises.
