- The last ten days (from 28 February) are the busiest; book in December or January with free cancellation.
- Choose by walking time, not by the word “near”; we do not publish prices because they change every week.
Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from 8 February to 8 March, with Eid al-Fitr on 9 March. It is the busiest month of the year in Makkah, and the single decision that shapes your trip most is where you stay and how early you book. This guide helps you choose a hotel by walking time to the Haram, explains how the crowds change across the month, and gives a booking timeline.
Everything about hotels comes from our own catalogue: 171 published hotels in Makkah, 149 of which have a walking time to the Haram. Walking times are our estimates for a normal day. We do not quote prices, because Ramadan prices change week by week; compare them in the booking form before you decide.
The dates that matter for planning
According to the Umm al-Qura calendar, the month is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027 and end on 8 March, with Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday, 9 March. The last ten days start on 28 February. The real dates depend on the moon sighting and can move by a day, so keep your bookings flexible by one day on both ends.
In February the weather in Makkah is mild: warm days and cooler nights, far easier than a summer visit. Heat is not the main problem; crowds are.
How crowded it is, week by week
The first week is busy but manageable. From the middle of the month the numbers grow steadily, and the last ten days are the heaviest, with the most people around the Haram, the longest queues and the slowest roads. Fridays and the evenings, when many people arrive at the same time for the congregational prayers, are always the peak of any week.
If you can choose, travel in the first half of the month or the first days of the last ten, and avoid arriving or leaving on a Friday. Eid week is also busy with departures, so plan your exit with the same care as your arrival.
Where to stay: why walking time matters most
In Ramadan the distance between your hotel and the Haram decides how your day looks. A short walk means you can rest in your room between prayers, avoid taxis at the busiest hours and go back and forth without planning each trip. A long walk means you will spend much of the day on the road.
In our catalogue, 10 hotels are within five minutes of the Haram on foot (nine of them five-star), 35 are six to ten minutes away, 19 are eleven to fifteen, 18 are sixteen to twenty-five and 68 are farther. Treat these times as a guide: around prayer times the same walk can take noticeably longer than on a quiet day.
Within five minutes: closest, and the most booked
These hotels sit right next to the Haram. They are the first to sell out for the last ten days, so if you want one, book early. Check which gate is nearest to the hotel and whether the route is open to pedestrians in Ramadan; the hotel can tell you.

Six to ten minutes: the widest choice
This is the largest group among the hotels close to the Haram, with 35 hotels, many of them large five-star towers with several restaurants and direct access to shopping areas. It is a good compromise between distance and choice, particularly for families who want a lift ride to the room and a place to eat without leaving the building.

- Makkah Clock Royal Tower, A Fairmont Hotel, 5★ — 6 min walk
- Hyatt Regency Makkah Jabal Omar, 5★ — 6 min walk
- Conrad Makkah Hotel Jabal Omar, 5★ — 7 min walk

Eleven to twenty-five minutes: better value, more planning
Further out you get lower prices and a quieter street, but you must plan: allow extra time to reach the Haram before each prayer and for the return, and think about elderly travellers and children. Many of these hotels are four-star and three-star and a good fit for groups that spend most of the day at the mosque. Staying farther than 25 minutes, as 68 of our hotels do, usually means relying on transport at the busiest times, which is hard during Ramadan.

- Ramada Dar Al Fayzeen Makkah, 4★ — 12 min walk
- Best Western Ajyad Makkah, 4★ — 12 min walk

Getting around in Ramadan
Roads close to the Haram are restricted at the busiest times, and taxis and private cars cannot always reach the hotel entrance. Plan to walk the last part, take light luggage if you can and ask your hotel how guests are transferred on arrival days. Allow far more time than usual for any ride at sunset and after the evening prayers, and check the official Nusuk app for current transport and access rules.
When to book
The best months to book are December and January, and for hotels within ten minutes of the Haram earlier is better still. Choose a rate with free cancellation where possible: it lets you move your dates if the moon sighting shifts the month by a day, and lets you switch to a better offer if one appears.
Keep in mind that prices for the last ten days are usually the highest of the month, and that many hotels sell Ramadan by the week or with a minimum stay. Read the conditions before paying.
What to check before you pay
Look at the walking time and the route, not only the distance; the number of lifts per tower; whether suhoor and iftar meals are included and at what hours; the check-in and check-out rules on Eid week; the cancellation terms; and whether the room is for the number of guests you have. Keep a screenshot of the confirmation and the hotel’s contact number.
Budget for the whole trip, not just the room: flights, the transfer between cities if you also visit Madinah, meals, local transport and a reserve for changes. Our Ramadan page shows the countdown, the calendar and the prayer times, and our guide to Makkah beyond the Haram helps with the free hours.
How we chose
We chose the hotels in each group from our catalogue by walking time to the Haram, then by the completeness of the hotel’s page, and we kept a mix of segments. We do not state prices or availability because they change daily.
This guide is information for planning and does not replace the instructions of your group leader, the official apps or your hotel. Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar and can shift by a day.
Tips
- Book as early as you can, ideally in December or January, and with free cancellation.
- Choose by walking time, not by the word “near”: ask the hotel for the route to the nearest gate.
- Avoid arriving or leaving on a Friday, and plan Eid week departures early.
- Carry light luggage and keep your confirmation and the hotel’s number on your phone.
- Check the Nusuk app for current access, permit and transport rules before the trip.
