Haramain High-Speed Train: Tickets, Stations, Baggage, Rules

A practical guide to the Haramain high-speed railway between Makkah, Jeddah, KAEC and Madinah: the five stations, the two classes, how to buy tickets, baggage and children rules, change and cancellation fees, delay compensation, accessibility and station services.

Haramain High-Speed Train: Tickets, Stations, Baggage, Rules

The Haramain high-speed railway links Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and Madinah, and it is one of the simplest ways to travel between the two cities. This guide collects the rules and services that the operator publishes on its official booking site, so you know what to expect before you buy a ticket.

ZiyaraGo is an independent information service and is not the railway operator. We read the operator’s public pages on 16 October 2026. Timetables, fares and rules change, and fares appear on the booking site only after you search for a specific journey, so check the price for your date there. Confirm everything on the official site or with the operator before you travel.

The route and the five stations

The route and the five stations

According to the official Haramain booking site, the line has five stations: Makkah, Al-Sulimaniyah in Jeddah, Jeddah Airport (King Abdulaziz International Airport), KAEC and Madinah. Trains run along the route between Makkah and Madinah, and the Jeddah and KAEC stations are on the way.

If you arrive by air in Jeddah, the Airport station is the one you want; our Jeddah airport terminals guide helps you plan the airport side. Follow the signs from the terminal to the station on arrival.

Journey time depends on the stations and the service. Travel guides give roughly two to two and a half hours for the full Makkah to Madinah run, which is approximate: look at the timetable result when you search.

Economy and Business: what is included

Economy and Business: what is included

There are two classes, Economy and Business, and all passengers on one booking must travel in the same class. Business includes complimentary drinks and meals, access to the cafeteria coach and trolley service for items you can buy. In Economy there are no complimentary drinks or meals and no service at your seat, but the cafeteria coach and the trolley are available for purchase.

Choose Business if you want the included refreshments, more flexible change and cancellation terms (see below) and, for travellers who use a wheelchair, the dedicated wheelchair bays on the Business coach.

How to book your ticket

You can book through the operator’s mobile apps, the website, the customer care line, a station ticket office or a station vending machine. After payment you receive an e-ticket by email and ticket numbers by SMS.

Changes and cancellations can only be made through the channel you used to buy the ticket, and the website or app lets you manage a booking. Dates on the official pages are Gregorian dates. Prices and departure times appear only after you run a search for a specific date and route, so compare a few departures before you pay.

At the station: tickets, gates and ID

At the station: tickets, gates and ID

The operator states that ticket offices close 20 minutes before departure and that the boarding gates close 10 minutes before departure. Do not arrive at the last minute.

Bring your valid ticket and a personal identification document. A foreign visitor should carry the passport they used to book.

Baggage: what you can bring

The baggage rules allow one large suitcase up to 25 kg and 65 × 55 × 35 cm, plus one hand item such as a backpack, laptop bag, camera bag, handbag or nursery bag. Luggage is screened, and laptops go through the X-ray machine.

The list of prohibited items includes explosive, flammable, toxic and radioactive materials, firearms and toy weapons, gas cylinders and large lighters, sharp tools such as knives, drills and large scissors, and jewellery, gold or cash worth more than SAR 60,000. Food and drink are restricted: only small sealed drinks in their original containers are allowed, and food should be packed inside your luggage. Animals are not allowed, except guide animals, and smoking is prohibited.

Travelling with children

The operator’s pages word the age limits slightly differently, so assume the strict version: children under 2 share an adult’s seat and need a valid ticket but are not assigned a seat, and children under 12 must travel with an adult and need their own ticket.

Check the passenger categories on the booking page for your date, because the booking form uses its own age bands.

Changing or cancelling a ticket: fees

The operator publishes fees that depend on the class and on how long before departure you act. Changes and cancellations are not allowed less than 20 minutes before departure, and a passenger who does not show up loses the ticket without a refund. A full refund is available otherwise only if the operator cancels the trip.

Delays, accessibility and station services

For delays, the passenger charter summary says that a delay of more than two hours gives a full refund if you abandon the journey, or 25% if you complete it, and a delay of more than three hours gives 50% if you complete it. The operator does not cover consequential losses such as a missed flight, so leave a margin before an onward departure.

For accessibility, the Business coach has two wheelchair bays on each train. If more than three wheelchair users travel or the bays are full, passengers sit in regular seats with staff help. When booking you can select options for passengers with reduced mobility and for a carer, a discount is offered to passengers with a valid disability ID, and wheelchair service is available.

According to the operator’s FAQ, stations offer a restaurant and a prayer room, hourly parking, waiting and business lounges, a gift and newspaper corner, an ATM and a bookshop. Taxis are available at stations, while car rental and limousines are not. The customer line is 920 004 433, and lost property goes to [email protected].

Practical tips

Keep valuables and important documents with you, because the operator is not responsible for lost items. Watch the screens and listen to announcements for your stop. Board on time, and remember that the doors and gates follow the posted closing times.

Plan the end of your journey before you travel: stations are in city districts, so check how you will reach your hotel and whether you need a taxi. Plan a taxi or a ride to your hotel from the station.

How we chose

We built this guide from the operator’s public booking-site pages, read on 16 October 2026, and rewrote it in our own words. Fares and timetables depend on the date, so check them on the booking site. We are not the railway operator, so confirm the current rules with the operator.

Tips

  • Check prices and times on the booking site for your date: they appear only after a search.
  • Arrive early: ticket offices close 20 minutes and gates 10 minutes before departure.
  • Keep to one suitcase of up to 25 kg plus one hand item, and read the prohibited-items list.
  • Choose Business if you want free changes more than 24 hours ahead.
  • Leave a margin if you have a flight afterwards: delays are not compensated for missed connections.
