SafetyProtect yourself from the sun
Umbrella, water every 20 minutes, avoid 11:00–16:00.
Why it matters
Makkah reaches 45–47 °C in summer. The Ministry of Health says an umbrella lowers the temperature around you by about 10 °C. Heat exhaustion builds slowly — by the time you feel dizzy you are already dehydrated.
Do
- White umbrella at all times outside — free ones are handed out at busy points
- Tawaf and Sa’i early morning or late night
- Drink small amounts often, add ORS/electrolytes
- Use misting stations and cold-water points
- Talc and dry skin against chafing on long walks
Avoid
- Tawaf at noon, Arafah and Jamarat at midday
- Scented sunscreen while in ihram
- Ignoring headache, dizziness, dry mouth
What to do
- Move to a cool place, remove outer clothing
- Cool the head and neck with water, use a fan or AC
- Give drinks if conscious
- Confused or not sweating — call 997 and go to the nearest clinic
